Information and Links for ARKS Volunteers
One of the first things to do is sign up for the ARKS neighbor ring. Post your photo and a bio so everyone can see who you are! Then log in and register skills, experience, and equipment you would be willing to share. We are building supportive neighborhoods for survivors to access, and resources can include many kinds of things. Consider the following list for ideas of what you might be able to lend:
- local knowledge: willing to talk to someone about their new region
- general labor: help moving or ... shoveling snow!
- babysitting, haircuts, health care, home repairs
- informal legal or financial help - e.g. filing or dealing with insurance
- tutoring and companionship ... how about playing a game or sport?
- transportation: willing to provide a ride or lend a vehicle
- entertainment: books, dvds, musical talent!
- any tools for home maintenance, or even sporting goods
- and of course, lodgings or meeting space
There is no obligation to agree to any request. You can put a value on anything you offer - as long as it's less than commercial rates, you're still helping. The ring also allows an alternate payment in credits that can be used to compensate when there is no cash.
We also have a discussion forum for members and those interested in helping with logistics. We are trying to make the email list create less volume, so if you are on the email list and have something of interest, I suggest you post it in the forum unless it is urgent and needs to be disseminated quickly.
